A simple rice dish that will accompany any indian dish.


1 cup of basmati rice
2 cups of water
A few strands of saffron
1 table spoon ghee
1 table spoons of vegetable oil
1 clove, 1 bay leaf and a small stick of cinnamon


Gently fry the spices for 2 min
Add the rice and keep stirring for a min or so to ensure that it is coated with the mixture
Add the water and saffron strands
Bring to boil
Allow to boil for 2 min max
Cover and reduce the heat to as low as possible
Do not remove the lid for at least 9 min, when all of the water has been absorbed the rice is cooked.
When cooked allow to sit for 3 – 5 min before serving
